Understanding Air Conditioning Repair
Air Conditioning Repair generally falls into two categories:
- Electrical faults
- Refrigerant leaks
Electrical faults are generally quick and easy to fix and relatively inexpensive when it comes to air conditioning repair. These involve replacing components and you are usually back up and running the same day. Capacitors and contactors are common items that fail. We check and test all components prior to replacement to ensure they are actually faulty. If your AC was working fine yesterday and now it’s stopped working the odds are its an electrical fault and we can get you back up and running pretty quickly.
If your AC has not been cooling as well as it did last year, and now it seems to be cooling even less, or if you have ice forming on pipes or ducts or see water on the floor its likely a refrigerant leak. In order to repair your air conditioning the leak must be located and repaired before new refrigerant can be added to the system. The only way a system can become “low” on refrigerant is if there is a leak. This leak has to be identified and repaired before we can legally add more refrigerant. Once this leak is repaired, new refrigerant can be added and the air conditioner charge can be adjusted for optimum cooling performance.
Often on older systems it may be wise to consider replacing the AC rather than spending hundreds of dollars – often more – on air conditioning repair. We will let you know when it’s advisable to put your dollars towards a new system rather than throwing more money at an older inefficient system. Of course you will always be given the choice to repair or replace your air conditioner.
